Quarantine Self-Care Tips from a Happy Yogi

Updated: Jul 20, 2020

Meet Jenaya, also known as the happy.yogi_ on Instagram. Jenaya is originally from New Glasgow, Nova Scotia but is currently living in Calgary, Alberta. She has a passion for health, wellness, yoga and movement, and I'm stoked to be able to share her quarantine self-care tips here on Louise Simply Fit.

As I sit here with my thoughts, my heart can’t help but ache with what is going on in the world right now. It is as if we are living in a movie. I am afraid, but I am also oddly happy that we are all being forced to slow down, to live in the present moment, day by day, moment by moment. I believe we can all use this time to reflect inward on how this pandemic is giving us all a wake up call. For the first time we are all in the same boat. It doesn’t matter what race or ethnicity you are, where you’re from or how old you are…we are all in the same situation of being scared and lonely and afraid of the uncertainty. We share the same fear about what’s going to happen to our economy and what the future holds.

I truly believe it’s important to embrace those feelings and own them! Don’t be ashamed to truly feel. Don’t be ashamed to cry. Don’t be ashamed to reach out to a friend and talk about how you’re feeling. I also believe that journaling and yoga is a helpful way to release those emotions. I have been practicing yoga for two years now, and like with so many other difficult times in my life, I have find that yoga is my favourite medicine to get through this quarantine. I encourage anyone who is dealing with stress during this time to sit down comfortably and mediate for 15 minutes.

Here are a few of my self-care & self-love tips I’d love to share with you ❤️

  • Bubble bath. Like seriously take the time to make it extra special and amazing. I enjoy adding peppermint and lavender to my water and I use my favourite raspberry bubble bath gel. I love adding fresh rose petals too. I fill my bathroom with my plants for some extra zen. I light my incense sticks and grab my favourite book and eat dark chocolate. PS - don’t forget a pillow to rest your head on the back of the tub. It’s really cosy!

  • Homemade facials! Banana honey oatmeal is a great one! It’s very gentle on your skin.

  • Baking and cooking! Finding a fun recipe on Pinterest is always a good time. Vegan banana chocolate chip muffins and chocolate avocado mouse are two of my favs right now!

  • Yoga stretching.

  • Colouring. Adult colouring books are amazing!

  • Reorganize your bedroom. That’s always a refreshing feeling.

  • Get dolled up for YOURSELF and take some selfies.

  • Play around with my hair styles you’ve never done before.

  • Take a walk by the water. It’s always soothing and relaxing.

This list could go on forever, but I only wanted to name a few :) I hope this list helps you. I hope you are happy and healthy, and in good spirits. I hope you know you are going to be Ok and that you are absolutely amazing. Much love xo
