We often hear people talk about some form of body maintenance and self-care. Both of these concepts exist on every level, from the very basic human needs to lavish spa retreats and vacations. However, how much is spiritual maintenance ever discussed? Whatever your religious or spiritual beliefs, or non-beliefs are, what level are you checking in with yourself and your vibe? Yes, vibe. What energy are you putting out into the world?

Our chakras are energy nodes that exist within us. We have total control over the maintenance and care of these energy nodes and how they affect our every day well being. What's best about chakra work is that they are your very own. Yes! You! You are solely responsible and more than capable of tuning into these energies and vibrating higher.

We have seven energy nodes running along the center of our body called Chakras. When in harmony we are connected, intuitive, clear and healthy. When out of harmony, physical and emotional imbalances can arise and we can feel stuck. Each one is associated with a color and many people simply visualize the color associated with the chakra when working with them.

There are many ways to balance your chakras, you just have to figure out what works for your. Some people are great at visualizing. Others work best with focused mantras or listening to musical tones. The key here is to bring attention to your Chakra any way you feel most comfortable with. What we focus on is what we attract. When you sit for ten minutes visualizing a balanced, spinning chakra, you are working on your energetic vibration, healing your body and taking control of self.

Let’s get started….

Root Chakra

At the very base of our body is our Root Chakra. The root chakra is associated with the color red, and is is located in the perineum and governs our sexuality, sensuality, security and stability. Women's and men's chakras spin in opposite directions, women: counterclockwise, men: clockwise.

Physical manifestations of a blocked Root Chakra are constipation, fatigue and lower back pain.

Mental manifestations of a blocked Root Chakra show up as feeling spacey and unsafe.

When working with your Root Chakra, affirm the mantra “I am able to let go of fear, and know I am eternally safe”. If visualizing is not your strength, listening to the musical tone C and repeating the mantra LAM are other great ways to help unblock your Root Chakra.

Sacral Chakra

Located in our pelvis is our Sacral Chakra, which is associated with the color orange. This chakra governs our reproduction, creativity, joy and enthusiasm. In women, this chakra spins clockwise and in men, counterclockwise.

Physical manifestations of a blocked Sacral Chakra are infertility, impotence, kidney and urinary issues.

Mental manifestations of a blocked Sacral Chakra show up as mental, creative blocks and low sex drive.

When working with your Sacral Chakra affirm the mantra “I embrace pleasure and abundance”, and again, if visualization is not your thing, listening to the musical tone D and repeating the mantra VAM are other great ways to help unblock your chakra.

Solar Plexus Chakra

Halfway between our naval and rib cage you will find your Solar Plexus Chakra. Associated with the color yellow, this chakra governs our personal power, will and autonomy. In women, this chakra spins counterclockwise and in men, clockwise.

Physical manifestations of a blocked Solar Plexus Chakra are digestive issues.

Mental manifestations of a blocked Sacral Chakra show up as low self-esteem, anger and lack of will power.

When working with your Solar Plexus Chakra affirm the mantra “I choose health, healing and happiness”. Listening to the musical tone E and repeating the mantra RAM are other great ways to get this chakra spinning.

Heart Chakra

Smack dab in the middle of our chest is…yes, our Heart Chakra. Associated with the color green this chakra governs all things love and how we relate to one another. In Women, this chakra spins clockwise and in men, counterclockwise.

Physical manifestations of a blocked Heart Chakra are heart and lung issues.

Mental manifestations of a blocked Heart Chakra show up as difficulty giving and receiving love, lack of empathy and fear of intimacy.

When working with your Heart Chakra affirm the mantra “I love myself and others fearlessly”. Listening to the musical tone F and repeating the mantra YAM are other great ways to work with your Heart Chakra.

Throat Chakra

Located in our neck/throat area is our Throat Chakra. This chakra governs our self-expression and is associated with the color blue. In Women, this chakra spins counterclockwise and in men, clockwise.

Physical manifestations of a blocked Throat Chakra are a sore throat or thyroid issues.

Mental, emotional manifestations of a blocked Throat Chakra are difficulty expressing feelings and disconnect between your heart and mind.

When working with your Throat Chakra affirm the mantra “I express myself with clarity and confidence”. Listening to the musical tone G and repeating the mantra HAM are other great ways to work with your Heart Chakra.

I hope this has given you some insight into the chakras, and how they can guide you to knowing your truest self. This is just the beginning of the Chakras, tune back in next week for the Third Eye & Crown Chakras!
