I am a sucker for knowing what is working in other people's lives. I want to know the little things you're doing that are making your life easier and more enjoyable. The hacks you have created to make the work/life balance that little bit more doable. The books you're loving right now. And I figured sharing what is working for me, might just be helpful to you too. So here it is...
1. Podcasts
After years of people raving about them, I have finally fallen in love with podcasts. They are the perfect bitesize pieces of information for me, and I have learnt so much in the process. Here are my current faves, and I would LOVE to hear yours too:
Ask Lisa - The Psychology Of Parenting with Dr. Lisa D'Amour - bestselling author of Untangled & Under Pressure - she blends expert knowledge on parenting teen, with her real experience & struggle as a parent.
Good Inside with Dr. Becky Dr. Becky is a clinical psychologist & mum of 3, and just so damn nurturing. She gives amazing advice, and great action items, in short episodes. Thank youuuu!
Huberman Lab - Huberman discusses neuroscience down-to-earth, real way., and how our brain controls our perceptions, behaviors and health.
2. Herbal Tea.
Again, after years of people raving about herbal tea, I have finally found my jam, in Yogi Throat Comfort. It's a combination of licorice root, slippery elm bark, wild cherry bark and orange peel. And there is a lovely little affirmation with each tea bag. It is perfect for winter warmth, helps me get my hydration in (especially important in the winter months as my skin literally flakes away....TMI!?) and it tastes AMAZING.
3. My new MINI morning routine to get me back on track
When I need to get my life back on track, I find that the way I wake up is über important. But implementing alllll of the things is just too overwhelming. So I am taking baby steps, being consistent and being gentle with myself. Here are my very achievable but very effective steps:
DO NOT LOOK AT MY PHONE!!!
Breathe for 2 minutes
Meditate for 2 minutes
5 sun salutations
Herbal tea before coffee
4. Asking for help
It is something that is very difficult for me to do, but something that makes my life a lot better when I have the courage to embrace it. I love to help others, so why would I think people don't love to help me?
5. Creating space in between appointments/meetings/teaching
Inserting just 5-10 minutes of space in my calendar helps me to breathe, and not feel completely frazzled by the end of my day. I know myself, and I like to fill up every available second, in order to be 'productive'. But I also know that this causes me immense stress. So now, 5-10 minutes, and I try to spend it not scrolling.
6. Going back to IRL books
I know people swear by Kindles, and maybe I'll get there some day. But I just love the feeling of having a book in my hand instead of my phone or a Kindle. Plus, I feel like it sets my kids a better example. What do I know? But right now, this is what is working for me.
7. Taking mini breaks throughout the day
Self-care doesn't have to be big extravagant gestures, it can simply mean prioritizing ourselves little and often. For me, that means setting my alarm for every hour, and taking a 1 minute break to just breathe. Nothing huge, just resetting my system, being present, feeling my feet, breathing.
Tell me - what is working for you these days? Do you need to make some changes?
